Obama's Scottish Roots

This week we heard that eventually, on 3/11, Donald Trump was given approval by the Scottish government for a golf resort to be built in/on a nature reserve in
Aberdeenshire. After the initial application was officially rejected by the local county council lasyt year, the tenacious Trump Organisation simply moved further up "our" governmental pyramid until they found someone on their level, whom, it appears, gave the application the thirty third degree and reversed the original decision.

Connery in old-skool regalia

This should please some, not least Sean Connery, who we recall commented back in June that he wished to be first to tee off on the new course, hopefully in 2009 at Homecoming Scotland - a statement made whilst promoting the latter "Robert Burns" event with Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond. As noted in my post King Conn:

Sir Sean said: “I’ve been a lifelong supporter of golf and Burns, so to combine the two next year seems very appropriate.

Coincidence, therefore, that from the news today surrounding the US election result, we read from the BBC under the headline, Obama receives Scots Invitations:

First Minister Alex Salmond has sent his congratulations after what he described as "a victory for optimism over pessimism, for hope over fear".

He invited him to come to Scotland during the 2009 Year of Homecoming.

Mr Salmond said Americans had chosen another president of Scottish descent.

Mr Obama's maternal ancestor, Edward FitzRandolph, is said to have emigrated to America in the 17th Century.

According to genealogists, his ancestry can also be traced to William the Lion, who ruled Scotland from 1165 to 1214.

The first minister said 12 US presidents had been of Scottish descent.

He told BBC Scotland Mr Obama would lead America in the right direction.

cheers
